In March 2025, I visited family and friends in Berlin, accompanied by my little Canon Demi C half-frame camera from 1962 and some rolls of HP5+. This camera is entirely manual, and it brings an almost meditative slowing down of tempo in the moment before I press the shutter. One moment, I am entirely immersed in sensing the moment; then I am fully engaged in a dialogue with the rangefinder, the lighting, and the shutter speed, and then I return to sensing.
And from there, it becomes a matter of postponement. Postponement of the decision about whether I exposed correctly; postponement of the experience of the result; and postponement of my learning process. Learning as a journey back to the future… I opted for the grainy aesthetic and developed the films in Rodinal 1:50.
